The Crocheting Call

One day walking around my local JoAnn store, I saw this beautiful color that just got my attention right on. With many years without touching a crochet hook, I reflect on that inner calling. Before living the store, I decided to go back and get a few rolls. No idea what I will make with it, but I did grab extra in case the project was big and I was glad I did. The rolls end up becoming a King size blanket and is my husband favorite blanket.

This is not only super comfortable, but is breathable and yet warm. We like it in summer because it doesn’t make my husband sweet in warm nights, but is also perfect for winter as it keep me warm without sweeting and make it me even colder. The blanket is on the heavier end but in a comfortable way that makes you feel like you are snuggling. Is a little bulky but is similar to a common comforter. Since is breathable, it makes it easy to clean it using your washing and dryer machine. You can also hang it in the stairs handrail and will dry quite quickly. The yarn is from Lion Brand: Cover Story line, which is made with 100% polyester. This blanket is around 9lb.

After the first success, I decided to explore other colors. Since my daughter is also on the hot side when sleeping, I decided to make her a white hand-crocheter blanket. I love the end result although is more noticeable in this color the nods made when joining yarn cakes. Still, it looks amazing and she loved her blanket. The blanket it have a slight stretch overall based on the type of stitch used. My crochet style is pretty tight when doing this blanket, so there is no much space between stitches, which make it easier to pull and move without getting your fingers easily caught between stitches.

For this King size blanket, I repeat the first project but included more yarn to make sure there was an excess to the side of the beds. The thought behind it was that for normal or high rise beds, there was a grace drop of the blanket instead of running short. Also, another reason was that when you have excess to the side, as two people lay down and snuggle on it, there is plenty of blanket to do so without leaving your partner out of the blanket! This took longer than the first one but I think it came amazing. This blanket is available for sale either in this website or via my Etsy shop (etsy/arachnecorner).

This full size blanket is full of fun colors. This blanket was inspired by a beautiful orange sunset near a lake in the snow mountains. Like the previous blanket, this one also is breathable, comfortable, somewhat heavy, and has a slight stretch. With the arrival of my niece, I was determine to make her present for Christmas 2023. I thought of a blanket, but wasn’t sure of which color she would love, so I decided to wait until she can decide on the colors. Looking around in the stores, I saw a bunny toy and it just hit me: I will make her a bunny! I looked for some patterns but I struggle as many were complicated and hard to followed. So inspired by the pattern Stuffed Bunny by @Knittingiscool, I started to change some of the instructions based on what I thought was a better size proportion and what I can understand. The results surprise me. While many patterns call for artificial eyes, I decided to just embroider her eyes and include a small decoration in her right ear. I end up doing two, one for my niece and one for my daughter. They both love their bunnies and sleep with them at night.

The yarn is from Lion Brand- Homespun collection made with an acrylic and polyester fibers blend.
